‘Prototyping as Research’ has been another fundamental aspect of the ‘3D Prototyping’ module that I’ve been enrolled at during my postgraduate studies at Edinburgh Napier University. During my participation in this course I worked on a number of practice-based exploratory design projects, learning how materials such as timber and metal can inform my prototypes in research terms. My work particularly concentrates in the bending properties of thin plywood and veneer laminates as well as the exploration of sand-casting aluminium through the help of a make-shift foundry.
