Social media networks are undoubtedly a major part of our modern-day life, but how will our obsession with them affect our future? This question was the key aspect towards the creative exploration of the topic ‘Digital Sentimentality’, which I’ve been investigating during my postgraduate studies in interactive-based experiences. The final approach to this project was the creation of a critical barometer called ‘The Valimat’, which is monitoring a person’s social media performance around the clock. It shows how our obsessions and behaviours from our daily social media usage might extend into our worst horrors in a speculative future, where peoples online performances and validation-seeking behaviours are turned into the backbone of our society.
